The Servant is not Greater Than His Lord By Michael W. McLemore The reaction of Christians to ill treatment is seldom that of one who realized that the “servant is not greater than the Lord.” The popular course of the unfaithful Christian, who desires to justify his unfaithfulness, is to list the instances of mistreatment which he has suffered. It seems never to occur to them that the Lord expects them to “love soberly, righteously, and godly” regardless of what others do or fail to do. Have you been slandered, betrayed, denied, unfairly condemned, abused, etc? “The disciple is not above his master, nor the servant above his lord. It is enough for the disciple that he be as his master, and the servant as his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more shall they call them of his household?” (Matthew 10:24-25). The
Christian needs to frequently remind himself that
“Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow
his steps: Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: Who, when
he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but
committed himself to him that judgeth righteously” What would be the lot of humanity if Christ had reacted to ingratitude and ill treatment as we sometimes do?
